This is a big move and i'm sure it'll inconvenience lots of power users.
Before it finally closes, in the meantime, it looks like there will be outages as the API transitions.
I'm not happy hearing this news.

1:21 am on Mar 6, 2013 (gmt 0)They are destroying all of the 3rd party clients by hobbling their API calls or by buying them and doing this. It wouldn't be so sad if there were any decent Twitter clients out there to replace TweetDeck.

I use Twicca (great mobile app for Twitter) on my Android phone and they pushed a notification about this last week. They will be updating to support the new Twitter, but warned that the timeline may not be available, or something to that affect.
Not sure if they aren't able to support changes to the new timeline, or that Twitter won't let them, or that the timeline will disappear completely. Guess we'll find out.
It's likely the first indication will be the app operating unreliably. If you see that, it's likely to stop working.
I'm reliant upon tweetdeck, so it'll be a blow for me.
