Yahoo Confirms It Will Run Google AdSense

Featured Home Page Discussion Report: Yahoo May Run Google AdSense

Remember when Google and Yahoo were talking about an ad alliance last year?

Maybe they worked something out, after all: Sources say Google is set to begin running some of its AdSense display ads on Yahoo sites, and will become one several ad networks Yahoo uses to fill some of its pages.

That means that the two companies will have a relationship similar to the one that Google has with publishers all over the Web: They give Google access to some of their unsold inventory, and Google inserts small ads it runs on behalf of its advertisers.

They've already done the alliance here in Japan.
I believe they are most likely just doing what Yahoo! Japan has already done.

desperate and unimaginative but considering the market strength of adsense understandable.

nevertheless, bad news for the common publisher, when a big network takes away a big chunk of the ad inventory. yahoo is more diverse, but like myspace going adsense back then, it probably hurts the earnings of topically related competing websites.

I thought Yahoo ran Bing ads? Just as the government drops lawsuit against Google this surfaces. Looking more and more anti-competitive to me. At this point Google could care less and less about the SERPS because they own most of the Internet advertising via major serch engines. Nobody has ever had this much clout on the Internet.

I didn't see that coming, but I shouldn't really be surprised considering Marissa Meyer moved over to Yahoo. Now we all know why, it was to make Google even more dominant. Silly me, I thought she was going to build a strong Yahoo independent of Google.

Welcome to Yoogle, all your Internet belong to us.

Yahoo's mentioned a number of times that they're disappointed with the performance of MSFT's network.

I'm surprised.

By running adsense ads on Yahoo pages Google can now gather metrics from Yahoo and you know they are chomping at the bit to do so. Google will most likely adjust their knowledge graph and news offering using some of the data the collect from Yahoo, which is filled with content that they want to display too. This move doesn't feel well thought through by yahoo.

Let's try a postive spin: As an advertiser (as well as an AdSense publisher) it brings greater opportunities, and brings, imho, better quality to some of the weaker AdSense sites in the inventory. As an advertiser, I welcome it.

From the point of view of competition, it is quite sad to see the strengthening of Google's position, or should I say, the apparent weakening of Microsoft's, and its ad inventory (where I also advertise).
